The Smithsonian Museum on Main Street’s Traveling Exhibition Hometown Teams will be at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center on Harkers Island from July 25 – September 7 (2015).
This exhibition brings together sports history and community spirit from America to the local host community where local athletes, parents, sportswriters, historians and fans gather their stories and share their own “hometown teams” with all who participate. It is being sponsored by the North Carolina Humanities Council and the Smithsonian Institution.

At the Museum through September 7:
An online exhibit of sports history, statistics, newspaper clippings, high school yearbooks and photographs of teams, games and heroes from across Carteret County and beyond.
Oral histories from players, coaches and fans posted online and accessible throughout the exhibition and displays of uniforms, photographs and scrapbooks for teams throughout Carteret County’s history
Hall of Fame commemoration; outstanding athletes in all sports, professional careers, hometown heroes! This first year’s class induction will be held at the close of the Hometown Teams exhibition, Sat., Sept 5, honoring those men and women whose contributions have spanned generations
